A New Marketing: My Twitter Rules of Engagement

  • Chris - Dorm Room Biz · 8 months ago
Those are the same exact 'rules' I follow when I get people following me. I automatically check their page and see what they are about plus check their website...if they have one.

Other classics - Zero Updates, Account Open for 6 months and 3 Updates, Hot semi-naked babe photo that's obviously a spam trap, accounts open for 5 days and already following 12,500 people...

    Matt,

Laughing, rolling, shaking head in agreement. My rules EXACTLY! One you left off - bio pic of you with no shirt on (man) or your boobies hanging out (duh) ... NO FOLLOW.

    Brilliant! Love it.

    Great rules!

This trend is considering me to add another nofollow condition...

    1) Person X follows me on FRIDAY
    2) Person X unfollows me over the weekend (unknowingly to me) guess I didn't follow fast enough
    3) I respond to twitter follow email and follow Person X on Monday
    4) Yay! Person X is now following me... wait... I didn't know they unfollowed until I see the duplicate email & profile
    5) Unfollow?

@jbryanphillips <-- doesn't always follow on weekends, days off, or vacations :)

Ditto - I also have a "not a person" (mostly) nofollow filter.

Thanks everyone for your support! I feel like these are things that can resonate with a lot of people. Hopefully if more of us adopt this attitude publicly, the spammers will calm down.
